Small Updates, Big Impact: How Argyle Keeps Getting Better Between Launches

Big launches tend to get the headlines. But much of what makes a verification flow work — whether an applicant finds their employer, finishes connecting their account, or understands what they just shared — comes from the steady, less visible work that happens between launches.
Our blog usually covers major product releases, and our newsletter rounds up the smaller updates. This post sits in between: a look at the improvements Argyle's Product and Engineering teams have recently shipped behind the scenes, all aimed at helping more applicants complete verification, faster, on Argyle's consumer-permissioned verification platform.
At a glance:
- More applicants finishing verification — new platform connections, faster mobile logins, and invites applicants recognize
- Testing, not guessing — how A/B tests across Link and invites decide what gets rolled out to every customer
- A clearer, more trustworthy applicant experience — accessibility, connection notifications, upload feedback, and more languages
- An easier, more reliable experience for your team — a rebuilt Console experience, Instant Refresh, better developer tools, and proactive monitoring
Helping more applicants finish verification
Conversion rarely moves because of one big change. It moves because dozens of small points of friction get removed — starting with whether applicants can find their employer at all.
- More places to connect. Applicants can now connect their accounts on exponentHR and Skyward, and we rebuilt connections for OnPay and iSolved to make them more reliable.
- Sign in the way your employer expects. Applicants on iPhone and Android can now sign in to their payroll accounts on their employer’s own login page, across 10 platforms including Workday and UKG, with no app download needed on iPhone. Because they sign in on their own device, it works the way they’re used to, with passkeys, Face ID, saved passwords, and company single sign-on. This has opened up connections for applicants at 80+ Fortune 1000 employers, and accounts connected this way grew 47% quarter over quarter.
- Less friction on the biggest platforms. We streamlined the ADP connection experience for several of our largest customers, cutting steps between opening Link and successfully connecting. We also upgraded account troubleshooting, so applicants who hit a snag get clearer guidance on how to resolve it instead of dropping off. And we’re not done: more connection improvements, additional A/B tests, and expanded single sign-on support are next.
- Invites applicants recognize and open. With custom sending domains, verification invites now can come from your organization's own domain rather than a third party's, so applicants are more likely to open them and less likely to mistake them for spam. Custom sending domains are live for 30+ customers, alongside an updated email layout and refreshed SMS copy. Over the quarter, the share of invited applicants who connected rose by 4+ percentage points.
Together, these changes helped lift payroll conversion (applicants who opened Link and connected an account) steadily over the quarter.

How we decide what to ship: testing, not guessing
Every applicant who opens Argyle Link is trying to get something done — close on a home, sign a lease, start a job. So when we change the experience, we don’t rely on hunches about what will help. We test it.
Our Product team runs controlled A/B tests across Link and our invite flows: a share of applicants sees a new version while the rest see the current one, and we compare how many successfully connect their accounts. Changes that help applicants finish get rolled out to every customer. Changes that don’t get dropped, and we learn something either way.
What we test
- Invite emails and SMS, including subject lines, layout, copy, and timing that affect whether applicants open and act
- Intro screens: new screens that explain what Argyle Link is, what applicants are sharing, and why, so they feel confident before they start
- Search: how applicants find their employer or payroll provider, from result ranking to how we handle typos and lesser-known employer names
- Login flows on the biggest payroll platforms, including the ADP improvements above, where small changes reach the most applicants
- Landing pages for applicants completing payroll, banking, and document verifications
What we’ve learned so far
This year so far, we’ve run 36 tests and rolled out 16 winning variants. A few highlights:
- Meeting applicants where they already log in. Many large employers run platforms like Workday and UKG with their own sign-in setup, so applicants often couldn’t connect through a standard login form. We tested letting them sign in directly on their employer’s own login page instead. We expected a modest improvement. Instead, it opened up connections at employers that had been hard or impossible to reach, and that sign-in experience now works across 10 payroll platforms.
- Helping isn’t always helpful. Some of our least successful tests were the ones we felt most confident about, changes meant to reassure or guide applicants. A more detailed introduction explaining how applicants’ data is protected reduced connections. A visual security cue on the intro screen didn’t improve them. A guidance step to help franchise employees work out whether to search for the brand, their local franchise owner, or their payroll provider led to fewer completed connections. The common thread is that every extra screen or paragraph is one more thing applicants have to read before they can get on with what they came to do. We kept the simpler flows, and we now treat “add more explanation” as a hypothesis to test, not a default fix.
- Up to 5% more connections for benefits recipients. Applicants verifying Social Security benefits were shown only sign-in options (Login.gov or ID.me). We suspected many recipients had never created an online Social Security account, so they were getting stuck at sign-in. Adding a simple “create an account” path alongside the sign-in options lifted connections by up to 5%, and it’s now live for every applicant.

A clearer, more trustworthy experience for applicants
Verification often happens at a stressful moment — buying a home, signing a lease, applying for benefits. We've focused on making the experience clearer, more transparent, and usable by everyone.
- Accessibility built in. We rebuilt the Link design system from 443 components down to 60, making the experience more consistent and easier to keep accessible as it evolves. Link was also independently audited against WCAG 2.2 AA and Section 508, with fixes shipped. Read more about Argyle Link's accessibility commitment.
- Connection notifications. Applicants receive an email confirmation when they connect an account and share their data, so they always know what was shared and when.
- Real-time feedback on document uploads. When an applicant uploads a document that's unreadable, outdated, or password-protected, they now get instant feedback so they can fix it before submitting — rather than finding out days later.
- More languages. A Spanish toggle on the landing page now carries through into Link, making the experience more accessible for Spanish-speaking applicants from start to finish. If embedding Link, Simplified Chinese, Russian, and Haitian Creole are also available.

An easier, more reliable experience for your team
Improvements for applicants only matter if the teams ordering and reviewing verifications can work efficiently, too.
- New Console Experience. Argyle Console has been rebuilt around verifications rather than invitations. Mortgage customers can now view, order, and manage payroll, banking, Doc VOI, and partner orders in one place — with one order form for payroll and banking. More enhancements and a broader rollout are underway.
- Instant Refresh. When a borrower adds an account after a report is generated, operators are notified by webhook, email, and an Encompass banner — for up to 60 days — so new data never slips through the cracks.
- Better tools for implementation. A new customer-specific coverage site gives your team a way to check which employers and platforms applicants can connect. We also reorganized Argyle Docs around our Verifications and Data APIs, with quickstarts, vertical-specific guides, and our Changelog in one place — and soon customers will be able to create Sandbox test users in Console by simply describing an income or employment scenario in plain language.
Plus, reliability you don't have to think about. Behind the scenes, we've strengthened how we catch and resolve issues:
- AI-driven QA tests every feature against its acceptance criteria and flags defects, with 88% of QA tickets validated fully automatically in the past month
- Proactive uptime monitoring covers every public read endpoint of our API, so we can spot and address issues before customers do
- Incident management brings alerts, on-call, and status.argyle.com into one process, from first alert to customer communication

Small improvements, real results
No single update in this post would make headlines on its own. Together, they add up to something that matters more: more applicants finding their employer, finishing their connection, and understanding what they've shared — and more of your team's time spent on decisions instead of follow-up.
And this work doesn't stop. New connections, Link refinements, A/B test learnings, and tools for your team ship every month, often between our major announcements.
